WordPress 5.3.1 was released on the 12th of December 2019 and comes with bug fixes, ‘enhancements’, and security fixes.
“Version 5.3.1 is mainly focused on security and maintenance features: around 46 bug fixes and enhancements are addressed in this release.”
For most folks this update will have come automatically, if this was the case you can contact a freelance WordPress developer or check the following yourself:
- Has the update run, check Dashboard > Updates to confirm it actually ran
- Always check your core SEO files, the XML site map and robots.txt
- Sitemap should be either domain.com/sitemap.xml or domain.com/sitemap_index.xml
- Robots is always domain.com/robots.txt
- Do a quick spot check of your title, general meta tags and any Schema markup you have
- If you run a site health monitor, test your site, various exist

- Crawl as Google using GSC
- Check your error logs and generally confirm any issues in the WP site health tool
